Originally designed by a student (Nik Smart), this track beast first saw the light of day in 1996. It's road legal, but you'd be hard pressed to call it a car. The Ariel Atom is really in a league of its own, featuring a chassis which is visible from the outside (a type of car build called exoskeletal), no doors, no windows, no this, nor that... Everything that is not needed to race has been stripped from this machine.
Combine this with an engine producing 245bhp, later on replaced with an even bigger engine producing no less than 500bhp, you've got yourself a rocket on wheels. Nought to sixty? 2.8 seconds (2.5 seconds with the 500bhp strong engine) - a dazzling figure if you ask me.
Personally, I even like the way the Ariel Atom looks - thanks Nik Smart!
